PhATA is a division of the Child and Family Art Therapy Center, P.C. (CFATC). CFATC is a unique private-pay therapy practice specializing only in child and adolescent Art Therapy. Although its programs were in development since 2000-2001 when Mike Fogel worked at a group psychology practice in Ardmore, PA, CFATC was incorporated in 2007. Due to outstanding word of mouth and ever-increasing referral rates, CFATC grew to 12 clinical associates in four locations, Haverford, Paoli, Plymouth Meeting, and Center City, Philadelphia.

CFATC creates the ideal individual therapy environment for children and adolescents. CFATC’s Art Therapists use creativity, playfulness, and Art Therapy to make child therapy fun and friendly for all kids. The clinical associates at CFATC individualize therapy to meet the unique communication and developmental needs of teenagers, as well. Wrapping around a child’s whole world, CFATC therapists collaborate with kids’ parents, caregivers, and educators. They strive to support and train everyone in a child’s orbit to provide ideal structure and support.

The Child and Family Art Therapy Center is doubly renowned for the Art of Friendship Social-Coping Program® (AoF). AoF is a regional leader in social skills therapy for neurodiverse children with autism, ADHD, and learning differences. This neuro-divergent population of children shares a common challenge: socializing effectively and managing emotions and impulses. Without assistance, it can be hard for them to succeed at school or extracurricular activities. They often struggle to form and maintain friendships. Mike created a curriculum of social and emotional coping skills, as well as an ultra-positive method of reinforcing their acquisition. AoF continues to accept social skills group referrals for children ages 4-18. Additionally, the Art of Friendship Social-Coping Program® spun off a therapeutic social skills day camp called Camp Pegasus, which supported nearly 150 campers with social skills challenges from 2012-2023.

In 2019, CFATC launched the BetterWorld Affordable Therapy Option. This sliding scale program at CFATC is powered by intern Art Therapists. It makes CFATC’s advanced individual therapy and social skills training approaches accessible to underserved populations. Families that traditionally couldn’t afford CFATCs private pay services can now benefit from them, with fees that slide as low as $15 for qualifying families. This resource is shared with Philadelphia Art Therapy Associates’ adult clients, and you can learn more about it HERE.
